Nail Varnish

So recently I have developed a new hobby, this is partly due to my supposed freedom. No, I have not left school, I have however, recently finished my AS exams and as they all began and ended so close to the beginning of study I was left with more time than I could manage. It’s something ridiculous like three weeks, I’m a teenager! I don’t know what to do with that kind of time, two weeks in and I don’t even know what day it is. I got out of bed at 2:30 today… I’m not proud of that.

Anyway, too fill my time I have been focusing on baking – as you can see from my new addition to my blog ‘Have Some Cake With That’, and I have been playing around with nail painting and design. I mean, I’m not any good at it, but it’s more fun than I expected. I’m beginning to realise how sad I must sound. I must emphasise that I am one of three girls who have finished all their exams, I do try to go out and see people but it’s difficult when you’re a girl of 16 and have absolutely no motivation to get out of bed – that 2:30 thing is beginning to make more sense, huh?

So, due to my lack of motivation, my nail painting has really excelled! As you can guess, there is never a dull moment in my household. So due to my slightly obsessive painting  (I’m blaming the solvents in nail polish), I have come up with two designs that I’m particularly fond of: Daisy nails and thick stripes. They’re both really simple to do and add a little something extra to your look, and also, it’s just nice to have pretty nails even when you’re vegging out at home in your pyjamas.

Daisy nails can be done with 2 colours (for the petals and the middle) and a third colour if you want a back ground colour. You will also need a paint brush that you don’t care much about or (in my case) a long, thin, pointy thing. If you decide to use a base coat, paint that on first with a regular nail brush, then dip your pointy thing (or your abused paint brush)  into the colour you want the middle of your flower to be (in my case blue – as shown in the photos) and poke your nail (it really is as elegant as it sounds!) where you want the centre to be. Then clean your long pokey thing and dip it in your preferred petal colour nail pot and poke your nail around the centre spot. Then I use ‘Nail Nurse – Perfectionist’ by Rimmel as a protective clear coat and also I like the way it makes my nails shiny and smooth.

I know this photo isn’t great and you can’t actually see that my left hand has a blue flower, but please try to comprehend how difficult it is to take a selfie of your hands without any hands.

My other preferred nail design is fairly self-explanatory, because it’s just thick stripes but I like it because it makes my nails look like candy. I use an orange base coat (right hand nail polish called gamma) and then paint the top half with pink, once the base coat is dry. Once all the layers are dry, I suggest painting the same clear, protective coat as used before.
